Marc Safran, MD, Joins International Study Investigating Hip Motion in Tennis Players and Injury Risk

Marc Safran, MD, Stanford Sports Medicine Team Physician and Orthopedic Surgeon, along with an international research team published a study entitled “Hip Range of Motion and Association with Injury in Professional Female Tennis Players” in the recent American Journal of Sports Medicine.  The research team examined 125 professional tennis players and found an association in female professional tennis players between abdominal strains and flexion contracture of the hip with hip flexor tightness. They did not find evidence of specific hip adaptations in rotational range of motion.
